The first Dance For Freedom Music Festival was held
August 31st 1997. At the time it was conceived as a tribute to Willits community member Nicole B. Dawson, who died of
Lupis. She loved to dance and had a free spirit. Hence the name Dance For Freedom.
The next year it was on September 26th 1998. It was Dedicated to all Loved ones who have Passed on
Before us. This was decided after another two Local Community members died. Brooks Darrow, who was hit
by a Coca Cola truck. And Stanley Warn, who was hit by a Station Wagon. It was a hit and run accident. Both of these
occurred on Commercial Street.
Then in 1999 we held it off. Because my wife was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia. Which about 15 Million
people in the United States alone, now have.
The next year it was held June 17th 2000. It became a Benefit for Fibromyalgia Research. It is still Dedicated
to all Loved ones who have Passed on Before us. It has now carried the themes above for five years. It would have been
six years, but last year (2005) we were rained out.
Last Year (2006) the show was a smashing succes.
2007 promises to be even bigger and better.
